Commemoration hall

On 11th December 2002 the Warsaw Commuter Railway (WKD) opened the EKD/WKD Commemoration Hall at the Company’s registered office in Grodzisk Mazowiecki.

The exhibition is divided into the following sections:

  • Commemoration of EKD commencement
  • Construction of the EKD rail line from Warsaw to Grodzisk
  • Poland's twenty years of independence after World War I.
  • Reconstruction of the war damage
  • The rail line in the years 1948 – 2002
  • Where are you heading off, WKD?

The EKD/WKD Commemoration Hall houses a number of exhibits and memorabilia such as photos and documents related to the operations of the EKD/WKD, tickets, rail vehicles, accessories, items of technical equipment, rolling stock models or mock-ups of stations or buildings. Among the most valuable collections held in the rooms of the Commemoration Hall in Grodzisk are: the ticket board of the ticket inspector dating back to the years 1939-1944, a running wheel model from 1927, a fire helmet from 1939, flagstones with the inscription EKD (1926), sceptres, a part of the traction pole (1936) and a watch of the driver dating back to the 30s of the 20th century. One can also admire the paintings of Szczepan Brożycha entitled: "Lokomotywownia Grodzisk Mazowiecki ," and the paintings of Magdalena Woźniak.

The most interesting exhibit preserved to this day, is the EKD rail vehicle, manufactured in England in 1927 with the elements that survived from that period. The rail vehicle is, from time to time, started for the visitors.
